Greek Island Wedding Inspiration
Good afternoon all,
I thought it was high time that I posted a little proper Greek Island wedding inspiration board! I normally shy away from this style, as I take it for granted and want to give myself more of a challenge, however I do think that sometimes it pays to take a step back from all the rustic, historic and luxurious venues that I source for a living and realise that simplicity works!!!!!
So in the hope of inspiring some of you readers:

Anything but....... a boring beige wedding!
If people were to describe my style to others, I think it would be coordinated, quite monochrome, I tend to mix only one or two colors together per outfit and those tend to be white or beige in the summer and black and grey in the winter, although I do retain a little beige in the winter too!
So it makes perfect sense that I adooooooore this inspiration board, this one really is very me!!
I would serve cappucino's and latte's at this wedding along with fluffy merangues and pavlova's!

Traditional Greek Wedding in Rhodes
Good afternoon,
Today I am posting a traditional Greek wedding that I assisted with of some good friends of mine who got married in September of this year. It is interesting as it is quite traditional and very large (over 800 guests were invited).
Before the wedding, the groom is dressed by his parents and best men (four of them in this case), in this image the groom is thanking his father and basically leaving the nest and moving to a new house with his new wife! A very tense moment that is a real tear jerker!
One of the best men help the groom put his suit jacket on, traditionally all 4 best men will do this before it is finally on for good!
The groom is waiting patiently on the church steps for his bride, in Greece the groom carries the bridal bouquet and presents it to his bride as she arrives!
Inside the church the bride is listening to the church service!
The stefana or wedding crowns are held in a cross shape to be blessed before being exchanged on the couples heads by their best men and maid of honour!
Once the service is over all the guests move to the reception hall to dance the night away! I love this image of the bridesmaids running in the entrance!
The bride dances a traditional zeimbekiko dance, where the onlookers sit around the dancer on their knees and clap them on!
The happy couple dance the night away and share a kiss!

Wedding Photographer in Greece
Good evening all,
Today I wanted to introduce you to a talented photographer called Spiros Tsambikakis, he started working in 2007 taking some shots at weddings and has now set up his own studio and has been the main photographer at many weddings.
His shots are very photojournalistic, he doesn't like many posed images and likes to touch up images before presenting them to the clients!
Some of my favourite shots of his work are:

Wedding at Lindian Village Hotel (Rhodes, Lindos Area)
Good afternoon all,
Today I am posting some images of a wedding that SP Weddings organised at the Lindian Village Hotel, which I consider to be the best resort hotel on Rhodes island. The wedding took place in the dome by the pool area followed by a dinner that was booked privately for the couple and a party in the disco area!

Winter White
Good evening, sorry for the long silence, I was actually travelling and have clients visiting leading to limited time in the office!
I thought I would do a post on winter white today, some might argue that this isn't immediately associated with a wedding in Greece, however at this time of year you really can have a Winter white wedding in Greece, especially the North, not many people realise there are many ski slopes and mountaineous villages to be found in the country, a new concept perhaps????
So, starting from top left we have a fake fur bolero by sewudesign's, perfect to throw over a flimsy bridal gown, I absolutely love the contrast between lace, chiffon even tafetta and fur!
To the right we have a feather fascinator by Satanica, perfect for a vintage inspired winter wedding!
To the far right, a gorgeous crochet cape by GimiKimi, I would also love this in an angora wool, but retaining the same design (I believe that is possible)!
Middle left is this veil and feather combination that I really adore, it's so fresh, so Carrie from "Sex and the City", so right now!!!! Made by Pomband Plumage.
Next we have Ekaminsk grey and white feather corsage, a perfect alternative to using flowers, I would also create bracelets for the ladies in the bridal party!
Acpetrille have created this snowflake inspired hairclip that looks beautiful fastened under a bun if the bride wants an up do!
Funkifolkart created the vintage sign that reads "Mr & Mrs", so simple but really sets the tone, I might ask the seller to create two smaller ones that are split to fasten to the back of the bride and groom's chairs at the reception!
The perfect headband, again this is very on trend and I think it really is very pretty, made by radokri.
I think it is important to add some personality and humour to the wedding and this penguin ring pillow by idotakeu is the perfect way to this and I love penguins!
Finally we have this drop dead gorgeous necklace which would be such a style statement when worn, created by bonheur!

Wedding Menu Ideas for a wedding in Greece
Good afternoon all, today I thought we should talk about a really important element of any wedding reception around the globe and that is the food that will be served to your guests!
Of course when having a destination wedding in Greece the three important elements are going to be finding a beautiful outdoor venue, preferably with a sea view, great wine and of course some great Greek food.
Some of your guests may never have tasted the local cuisine so it is a chance to incorporate some local dishes and perhaps serve the meal "meze" style, with all being served to the centre of the table so everyone can try a little of each!
As it's really difficult to choose one "ideal" menu that will suit all tastes, I will just indicate what I think should definitely be included on a menu and how I would structure it ideally!
Meze or starters
Great selection of bread, ask for the village loaves, perhaps small ones on wooden cutting boards for guests to slice themselves!
A selection of dips which must include tzatziki, skordalia, taramosalata and olive oil flavoured with oregano!
A Greek salad (obviously, although you could embelish with Cretan rusks, they call it Dakos salad)
Fried vegetables, this is really tasty, especially combined with the skordalia as above
Fried cheese (called saganaki)
Roasted feta with spices, absolutely love this dish!
You would then go on to include either seafood like kalamari and grilled octopus or meat based dishes like bekri meze (pork cooked in wine, the exact translation is boozy starter)
For main course again I would suggest keeping it simple with a large fish with olive and lemon dressing served with roast potatoes with oregano and lemon and some other vegetables of your choice.
Alternatively I would serve a fillet of meat that you prefer again if cooked well this is tasty with just some freshly squeezed lemon on top, but you could also offer a choice of pepper sauce or hollandaise for those that want to add some interest to their main course!
Dessert is really important to me, being a "sweet" loving girl, this is where my attention is focused, I think you must include a platter of Greek pastries i.e. baklava and kataifi, perhaps served with ice cream. Another vey Greek flavour is mastiha, do try before adding to your wedding menu, some love it and other hate it, I love it, so would serve mastiha flavoured ice cream.
Loukoumades are always a favourite as well, for those that are not certain what these are, dough balls with honey and cinnamon on top, served hot!
I have already posted about wedding cakes, please follow the link:

Mellow Yellow

I believe the end result is worth it, I think your wedding is the only project/party that you will put your heart and soul in to (ok, maybe your children's parties in the future), but this is the one daunting and most probably largest party you will ever throw, so ensure that you do it in style and do spend that extra effort to ensure that it is gorgeous!

Ring a ding ding....
As the holidays approach, many couples will take the opportunity to make plans about their upcoming nuptials, it is the time to dream, research, express your wishes, wants and hopes for the future together. It is also the time when proposals will take place and what better than to combine Christmas day with a romantic proposal and of course a gorgeous ring to seal the deal!!!
Starting from the top left hand corner, we have the perfect gift for those planning a beach wedding, created by star of the east, over on Etsy.com! Would complement the bridal outfit and is really funky!
To the right is a yellow gold ring with three pearls set in it, I absolutely love black pearls, I love looking at them, they are really pretty, so this ring is again one of my faves, made by sara westmark!
Just bellow is a textured band with a single stone that looks like it's hanging off the edge, very pretty and perfect for those looking for something out of the ordinary! Made by Kristin Coffin
To the left of this is a gold ring with three large stones set in to it, although more traditional than the other options on this board, I do love the shape and think this would be easy to wear day in and day out and I would certainly be proud to look down at it! By Mc Farland Designs
Just below is a ring set with a real fresh water pearl by eross jewelry, for the romantic at heart with it's light pink shade
Artisan Look created the ring with the gold disk with the pearl in the centre, this is for the more eccentric that like to draw attention to their jewelry choices.
One of my favourites created by bobbi jordan is the ring that looks like a little nest of pearls, I just love it and think it would make a beautiful addition to any lady's finger!
Eidel Precious created the fabulous ring with the green stone, it is quite earthy, but also glamorous!
Finally the tiny gold ring with different stones in the centre is simply gorgeous, created by Sara Westermark these are also suggested as stacking rings and think that is a wonderful idea, I can imagine a romantic at heart buying his lady one for each month/year they have known each other prior to engagement, or perhaps buying one on each anniversary in the early years until the stack is complete, perhaps even engraving each with a different message, can you tell that I like these?????

All things bling......
All items are from Etsy.com,
Today's post is all about wedding rings, they are not all simple wedding bands as some would have you believe, there are many, many ideas, designs, types and styles of wedding bands, of tourse what you choose is important as it is likely to be the piece of jewellery that you will wear most throughout your life.
So starting from the top left corner we have a simple wedding band by Anne Kiel with the word "promise" etched inside, I love this idea, to some it will be corny, most don't want a personal message to show, this is something that only you and your partner need know about and I love the simple message that it conveys!
Next, in the top right corner we have a stack gold ring by Artisan Field, this looks much less like a wedding ring than a simple band and is quite a fashionable look at the moment, I personally like the idea, I would like to wear this and love the worn effect on the gold.
Below to the left, Fabuluster has created these fabulous rings with your partners finger print on the inside, do you not think this is really cool? It's certainly an innovation for modern couples that don't like the inscription idea but want something more than a simple wedding band!
Next to it is Creative Goldsmith's creation, a very thin gold band with three tiny diamonds in it, this is certainly for the very feminine and I think it would suit a lady with petite hands, I would like to think that it would suit me, but I doubt it, my hands are not what you would describ as petite, oh well!
Nutri Design has designed the next ring, it's a band that looks like a plait, I think this has a vintage air to it, I like the design, I think it's interesting to look at and quite pretty, I'm not certain if men would accept to wear a matching band, but then again, I don't really think that wedding bands have to be matching pairs anyway.
Just to the left we have my favourite ring, created by Nutri Design, this is a great choice for the whimsical bride, does the ring remind anyone else of fairies and fairytales or is that just me? Love it!!!
On the bottom left, there is a ring with a classic Greek key design on it, an obvious choice to remind couples of the location of their destination wedding! Made by Tinahdee
Just to the right, Tinahdee again created this worn and weathered looking simple pink gold wedding band, I do think it is gorgeously simple, elegant and chic!
Finally, the gold band with three small diamonds by Patrickrla.Jewelry is a beautiful yet minimal option for an understated, luxurious look, after all diamonds are a girls best friend, so what better than to have some encrusted into your wedding band?

Wedding things I love
While surfing Etsy earlier this afternoon, I decided to do some searches and present my favourit items du jour to you! For anyone that hasn't heard of Etsy this is an online "market stall" that sells heaps of handmade items. There is a whole section labelled wedding where you can find almost anything related to your wedding, from ring pillows to actual bridal gowns!
Today I concentrated on hair accessories which I think are incredibly important as they show in almost every single picture taken! I do think that having fun with them is essential and if you are in doubt or a little self conscious, why not wear a traditional veil and then change your accessory to something a little more fresh and daring for the reception?
Credits: Satanica, Little White Dresser, Sibod Designs, Kiss Curl, La Boheme (6)
I particulrly love the headbands made of lace, I think they are extremely flattering and in keeping with a summer/beach themed wedding! They are also simple to take on and off, add no weight to your head and can be worn in hot conditions without making you feel overdone!
Of course the vintage inspired bird cage veils and feathery flowers are simply divine, what fun to wear these and buy matching coloured ones to compliment your bridesmaids outfits.
All items are on sale at www.etsy.com

Simple details..........lead to a perfect beach wedding
Credits: Doug McGoldrick, Heather Kincaid, Twin Lens, Martha Stewart (2), ak event design, Adeline and Grace Photography, Karen Wise
Good afternoon all,
Today's inspiration board illustrates how simple and inexpensive details can transform a simple beach wedding into an awe inspiring, picture worthy event.
Note jam jars, string, straw, white candles, fairy lights are really all you need to create this look!
Focus on white and cream tones with some earthy and green accents to add a little depth. Evening lighting can transform a venue completely and creates such a romantic atmosphere with very little effort.
The little pails with sweets that look like pebbles are the perfect favour to give guests, you could even set up a small candy bar with blue and white sweets and pebbles and guests could fill their pails as they leave for the evening!
The paper umbrella idea is truly inspirational and effective, again without being costly! Such a cool idea!
I suppose what this post is all about is urging people to spend time (not money) on considering the small details, these are what can transform an event, making it memorable and stylish!

Vintage, glamorous beach theme
Happy Monday all,
I thought I would start out the week with a gorgeous inspiration board that I hope will have you swooning as much as me!
The concept is to team minimal beach chic with vintage glam, as usual the secret lies in all the details that will really accentuate the theme and these should certainly be chosen carefully and not overdone!
I am thinking:

Themes, Ideas, Planning - But what is available in Greece?
Good afternoon all, well continuing my new direction with the blog, I have decided to write today's post on the subject of turning your vision for your wedding into reality in Greece. When it comes down to it, what can you get hold of in this country and what is difficult or even impossible to find!!!
Over to themes:
Modern
Clean & simple
White on white
Nautical
Elegant & Classic
These are themes that are easily supported by most venues in Greece, think white linens, covered chairs, white porcelain, clear glasses, beach side, pool side, open air modern spaces, spaces with wood pergola's.
Whimsical
Outdoor garden weddings
Historic
Cobbles & stones
These are more challenging themes, however not impossible and depends on your exact requirements, if the venue reflects the chosen theme, ie we locate a historic venue or lush garden setting, the lighting, tables, chairs and table settings are possible to get hold of.
Please note that most catering companies only supply rotary (round) tables and covered chairs, although SP Weddings aims to work with suppliers that can also provide oblong wooden tables and chairs as a second option for clients.
Mismatched
Shabby chic
This is where the going gets tough, there are no catering companies that supply mismatched crockery and glasses, nor understand this concept. It is also a huge challenge to find coloured linens, even napkins and coloured glassware is also almost impossible to get hold of.
In lieu of the above, please note that when mentioning historic settings in 99% of cases it is impossible to get permission to use any archaeological sites for a ceremony or reception in Greece. We can however rent some private properties that can be between 100-500 years old that do offer the "historic" setting that is popular for weddings at the moment.
Hiring a castle for a wedding in Greece is an almost impossible mission unfortunately!

Budgeting for a wedding in Greece
Good afternoon to all,
After my trip over to London which I thoroughly enjoyed and a few days in Athens, I am back in the office and ready to get into my blogging mode again!
Although the topic I have chosen today may seem tedious and boring to some it is actually the most critical question when planning a wedding abroad, Can you afford it?
The answer to this is extremely complex, I get asked this question by almost every bride that contacts me, they give me a brief idea of what they want and then ask how much it will cost!
For example, I would like a wedding on a beach for 80 guests followed by a cocktail reception, sit down meal, dinner and dancing until the early hours and I want lots of candles, flowers, fairy lights and a gorgeous cake. Then they ask me what will that cost?
When I was starting in wedding planning, I used to answer that question, I would sit down with a calculator, add all the average prices together, think of some options and give a price that I thought would cover the wedding that the bride was looking for. However in most cases this would get me into more trouble than it was worth, for instance further down the line, the bride would tell me that the cocktail hour she wanted had free flowing Moet champagne cocktails and not one fruit punch per person that I had calcutaled, what does this equal? Friction.
Then I would find out that the bride wanted imported peonies throughout all the centrepieces and bouquets, when my florist had quoted on locally sourced roses or lillies, again, friction.
Unfortunately it takes a lot more talking, emailing and thinking that some might think to give an idea on the price of a wedding!
So in order to provide a helpful guide on the approximate prices one might expect when planning a wedding in Greece:
FLOWERS
Bridal bouquet: 40-200 Euros
Centrepiece: 30-150 Euros
ENTERTAINMENT
Live Greek Band 800-1500 Euros
DJ 300-700 Euros
MEAL/CATERING COSTS
(There is a huge variable here depending on the type and location of the venue that you choose)
Taverna meal 20-50 Euros
Upmarket taverna on beach 35-80 Euros
3-4 Star Hotel reception 35-80 Euros
5 Star Hotel reception 50-150 Euros
Catering to private venue 40-200 Euros
PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY
Local photographer, no learned skills 350-500 Euros
Photo journalist photographer 1000-3000 Euros
Videographer (includes montage) 500-800 Euros
Photojournalism videographer 1000-5000 Euros
FIREWORKS
2 minute display 800-1000 Euros
5 minute display 1500-3000 Euros
I hope this is a helpful guide of prices in Greece!!!

Greek Wines
Hi all, I am embarking on a new chapter in the blog that is going to discuss Greek wines and foods that are extremely important factors for those planning a wedding in Greece!
If the last time you have tried a Greek wine was in the days when retsina and Domestica were the only options, then you are in for a pleasant surprise. The winemakers have come along in leaps and bounds and are now becoming recognised worldwide as some of the best wines in the world.
As it is impossible to keep your finger on the pulse and make an informed decision regarding what wine to serve are your wedding reception, I aim to give a simple yet concise overview of what is available, the vineyards that are in my opinion ones to watch and of course the ones to try in the run up to your wedding!
So let's get started with my favourite variety of wine that is Moschofilero, which is mainly produced in the Peloponnese region and especially in the Mantinia area. The wine is an aromatic white, with floral, spicy and citrus flavours.
This type of wine is best served with hors d'oeuvres and any foods that contain olive oil, onion or lemon as it really accentuates the flavors.
Some producers of the Moschofilero variety to look out for are: Skouras (average price 6-7 EUROS), Semeli (9 EUROS ), Mercouri and Domain Spiropoulos (9 EUROS).
Assyrtiko, is another flavourable very dry white wine, initially produced on Santorini island, now also in other areas around Greece. The wine has earthy tones, a steely, citrusy flavour which comes from the volcanic earth on the island.
This wine is best served with fish or seafood.
The producer that we suggest you look out for is Ktima Gerovasileiou (12 EUROS), Chatzimichali (11 EUROS) and Amethystos by Lazaridi (11 EUROS).
Agiorgitiko, a full bodied red wine produced in the Peloponnese and especially the Nemea area, this spicy, plummy wine is an excellent choice to be served with grilled tuna, Greek spicy sausages, souvlaki, roast chicken or other traditional meat based dishes.
The labels to look out for are Nemea (14 EUROS), Skouras (10 EUROS) and Vivlia Chora (16 EUROS)

A Rock & Roll Bride in Athens
Hi all, I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Today I am posting an incredibly cool wedding that took place in Athens this past summer! I absolutely loooooooved the bride's look, she really let her personality shine through and refused to confirm to the "classic" bride look, which in Greece 9 out of 10 times means adding extensions and curling your hair, or having a very untrendy chignon.

The bride has such a strong punk look and seemingly refused to tame down her look in order to conform to the "norm". I am so pleased as I think her look literally, ROCKS!!!
I think this might be my favourite image, the bride looks so calm and collected and content! The image is also gorgeous!
On second thoughts, perhaps this is my favourite, you can just make out the silhouette of the bride in the car arriving at the ceremony venue!
This is a classic "fun" image, the part of the Greek Orthodox ceremony where most people are laughing, happy and moving, so this fabulously pretty bride of course looks gorgeous in the image!
The finale is an image of the couple's first dance, which took place at a beautiful venue just outside the city of Athens
Did I mention that this beautiful couple are childhood sweethearts and have been together for years and years? That small detail makes me look at the pictures in an entirely different light.
Speaking of pictures, all the images above are courtesy of the wonderfully talented Magdalene Kourti, you can find more information on her work at www.mkourti.com.
Watch out for the next post on the bride's gorgeous gown that we are going to put up for sale!!!!! Coming Next.............

Wedding Reception in Stunning Location on Rhodes Island
As promised, I am back with the gorgeous photographs of the reception that SP Weddings planned for the lovely couple that travelled all the way from New York to hold their wedding festivities on the island of Rhodes.
The venue was located right on the water front and offered incredible views over the sea!
The colour scheme was crisp white, grey (the groom's favourite colour) and a lively, sunny yellow that really accented the colour palette.
We decided that all the decoration should blend with what was already in existence at the venue, so we used small olive trees on the tables and hung rice lights from the wicker umbrellas.
Lanterns and candles were placed on as many surfaces as possible, creating a romantic atmosphere with diffused light that was just perfect!
This is a view of the venue from afar once it got dark, it looked stunning!

A summer wedding at St. Paul's in Rhodes
Good afternoon everyone, I'm sorry for the delay in posting this week, however I am having laptop problems and in the process of moving from one to the other, so it was impossible to log on yesterday!
Today, I am posting a beautiful wedding (one of my all time favourites) that was held on Rhodes island at the picturesque chapel in the bay of St. Paul's in Lindos! This is a setting that many couples choose for their civil wedding, however this couple held their Greek Orthodox wedding here and travelled from New York along with guests from both the US and Karpathos in attendance!
I love this picture, the girls were in charge of handing out the parasols to the ladies attending the ceremony, it was so pretty to see all the women taking their seats and using their parasols to shade themselves!

The bride arrived at the church, I thought her gown was so elegant and refined!
The ceremony took place in the courtyard of the chapel overlooking the water
This is a detail of the kochlaki detail in the ground of the chapel, we had a half wreath placed on it to frame the area where the bride and groom stood to be married, it worked really well and was very pretty for the guests to look at!
I love this image, this is the fun part of Greek Orthodox wedding ceremonies and you can see everyone is enjoying it including the wonderful Priest who is such a lovely person!
I will post the absolutely stunning reception images on Thursday (it is a public holiday here today), it is really worth checking back for them as the setting was truly beautiful!
